Professor Ronald Brand and third-year students Marc Coda, Kerry Ann Stare, and Rick Grubb traveled to Al Ain, United Arab Emirates to provide training on October 1-6, 2009, to students at the UAE University College of Law in preparation for their participation in the 2010 Vis International Arbitration Moot. The training is funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program, and is designed to aid in the development of the law school curriculum in international commercial law and arbitration. Similar training has been provided by Pitt Law’s Center for International Legal Education to the University of Bahrain in 2007-08 and Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in 2008-09. |

On February 26, 2009, Professor Dr. Annette Kur, Unit Head at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law, Munich Germany, presented Pitt Law's 4th Annual Distinguished Lecture in Intellectual Property Law "The European Community Design Right: A Uniquely Tailored System for Protecting Industrial Designs". A panel discussion comparing EU and US design protection and featuring Donald S. Chisum, Daniel Brean, and Janice Mueller followed the lecture. |

The United Nations has rolled out a very useful database and lecture series on international legal issues. The lecture series includes presentations by a small group of the most eminent international legal scholars from around the world. Notably, the two lectures on the UN Sales Convention are provided by our own Harry Flechtner, and can be viewed at http://untreaty.un.org/cod/avl/ls/Flechtner_IEL.html. |

Our first-ever Space Moot team participated in the North American round of the 2008 Manfred Lachs Space Moot Competition during the first weekend in April. Their brief was ranked 4th best in the entire competition and this pioneering self-motivated team garnered direct praise and encouragement from space law practitioners and even faculty at other law schools. |
