Joint Degree Programs Session
The School of Law will host a meeting with information about the joint degree programs available tot eh Pitt Law J.D. students.  CILE will be present to answer questions concerning internationally-focused joint degree programs and their impact on a student's legal study. 

 

NOVEMBER 2009

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., Room G-12                                                                           "United States Peace Corps Opportunities"                                                                                    CILE will host an informatational meeting for JD students interested in opportunities with the U.S. Peace Corps. The Unviersity of Pittsburgh Peace Corps Recruiter Annie Nagy will be present to speak with students about the prorgrams that exsist for students following graduation from law school.

University Center for International Studies (UCIS) Opportunities available for Pitt Law students
UCIS representatives will talk about program through their area studies centers specifically the Area Studies Certificate programs and Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships.

International Moot Court Competitions information meeting 
2&3L students interested in participating international mooting opportunties.  Professors will discuss the Vis, Jessup, & Niagara moot competitions.  Tryout instructions, deadlines, and team schedules will be distributed.

Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Teplitz Memorial Courtroom
"Pros and Cons of Faith Based Initiatives in Addressing Health Vulnerabilities in Southern Africa: Legal and Ethical Issues"
Professor Vivian Curran will moderate a two hour discussion featuring a panel of Zambian and Pittsburgh experts and scholars. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Global Health and the Department of Family Medicine. Two (2) CLE ethics credit available. Reception to follow.

Study Abroad information meeting
Study abroad opportunities for the summer, semester, & full-year study abroad options will be discussed.  Logistical & administrative requirements will be presented and students will share their study abraod experiences.

Alumni Lecture: Jeff Koncsol (J.D. '03)
Koncsol will speak about international career opportunities and share his career path as a Pitt Law student.  He works for the Iraqi Law Alliance, a law firm focused on reconstruction and development in Iraq.

"The Secret Police of the Former East Germany:  Their Dissolution and Legacy"
This program will be presented by David Gill, Deputy Representative of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany to the FRG and EU was among a handful of individuals who prevented the destruction of East German Secret Police records when the Berlin Wall came down.

1&2L students interested in international internship opportunities.  Information about selecting, applying for, funding, and participating in international internships will be provided by Wes Rist, Assistant Director of CILE.  Students will share their internship experiences.

"Nationalism, Constitutionalism, and the Future of the European Union"
Sir Judge David Edward, Former Judge of the European Court of Justice, will speak at the 18th Annual McLean Lecture on World Law. One (1) CLE substantive credit will be available. Reception in the Alcoa room will follow.
