The region embraced by the former Soviet Union and the states of central and southeastern Europe is currently undergoing a historic period of revolutionary change. Economies and political systems are being transformed and rebuilt in a process that hold both great promise and great danger. But even as new mechanisms are being created and new alliances are formed, long-standing traditions persist. The Center for Russian and East European Studies is devoted to assisting students to seek and exchange knowledge about this fascinating and changing region and to acquire the skills necessary to expand that knowledge.
Requirements:
- Demonstration of proficiency in a language of the former Soviet Union or East/Central Europe equivalent to three years of study at the college level
- Six REES-related courses (18 credits), of which at least three are in two or more departments other than that of the school of law.
- A substantial research paper based on primary source materials in the language(s) of the area. This paper may also be used to fulfill degree requirements.
