Languages for Lawyers Program
Available to attorneys as well as JD students, Languages for Laywers courses are designed to facilitate communication between American lawyers and their foreign clients and to transmit a sense of the foreign legal culture to the American practitioner.

CILE offers legal language workshops in: |
Intended to introduce legal vocabulary and basic grammatical structures in the target language, these workshops are not meant to enable the student to conduct a legal practice in the foreign language or to give legal advice in foreign law.
LAW SCHOOL CREDIT
Classes meet for two hours once a week for 14 weeks. Level I classes are taught in the Fall and Level II are taught in the Spring. There are no prerequisites for Level I classes. To sign up for a Level II class, you must have completed the Level I workshop, or have had at least one semester of college level instruction in the foreign language. Consult the Registrar's course list to ascertain if the language you want will be taught in the coming year.
CLE CREDIT
These workshops have been approved by the PA Continuing Legal Education board for 28 substantive credits. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to those who pass a final examination with a grade of "C" or better. CLE credits may be obtained without taking the final exam. Attorneys: Please complete the Registration Form and submit it to CILE by post or e-mail. The charge without CLE credits is $750.00 for one semester. The charge with CLE credits is $890.00 per semester. Checks should be made payable to "University of Pittsburgh". Please write "Languages for Lawyers" on the check's memo line. We do not accept credit cards.
