The text(s) for the course will include materials that describe and critically analyze the social, economic, political, and legal history of the United States. These materials will be augmented by a selection of period-specific primary source, legal and law-related documents. The class will consist of lectures, discussions, and student presentations.
Students may, at their option, use this course to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement.

Grading
Mid-term exam 30%, Final exam 30%, Paper 30%, Class Participation 10%.
