Health Care Compliance is designed to provide students with significant practical experience useful in a health care / health care compliance practice. Because the successful lawyer works as well in a team as alone, the course requires both team and individual learning performance.
In class, students will discuss assigned readings consisting of regulatory guidance, cases, and articles. Each student will participate in two team assignments and a final exam. Student teams will draft comments on a proposed health care regulation. The teams also will prepare and deliver a presentation explaining a compliance issue as though the team is presenting to a client. Students will successfully complete a final exam (2 hours). The exam will draw from all assignments and class discussions, including the topics covered by the team presentations.
Students will be expected to complete all readings and assignments prior to class, and participate in class discussions.
Grades will be based on the following:
- Class participation – 10%
- In-class presentation (team) – 25%
- Regulation comment (team) – 25%
- Final exam – 40%
