Classes will consist of discussion of the assigned materials, student presentations in varying formats such as mock legislative hearings, policy briefings, leading of class discussions, and presentations of policy recommendations. Some group work may be required. Students will complete four written assignments of varying lengths (three short assignments, one of which will be ungraded, and one long graded assignment) on assigned topics. Written work will be extensively critiqued, and one re-draft of each written product will be required.
Grades will be based on written work (85%), and oral work in class in both presentations and discussion (15%). In group work, students may also be evaluated by their peers.
