Course Description

Environmental Law and Practice provides an in-depth evaluation of a single environmental statute, the Clean Water Act, to introduce administrative and regulatory processes, including rulemaking, permit issuance, and enforcement, and to introduce students to statutory interpretation and drafting the type of documents commonly used in environmental practice. Written exercises will emphasize interactions between the three branches of government as well as federal and state governments in developing environmental laws and policy. We will spend a number of classes considering and comparing similar statutory schemes, such as the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Clean Air Act.
