Housing Options in and around Pittsburgh

There are many housing options in Oakland, Pittsburgh, and the surrounding area and our students find great housing throughout Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh offers very few on campus housing options for our law students and most law students choose to live in the lively and quaint community of Shadyside. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid strives to aid you in your housing search and provide a multitude of information to assist you in this process.  Shortly after April 15th of every year The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid provides all law students with a secure web site to assist you in housing search- everything from learning about neighborhoods to helping you find apartments and roommates who are also law students.

As mentioned, many of our students choose to live in Shadyside.  A common choice due to its central location it is a quick bus ride away from Oakland with buses in and out every five minutes.  Walnut Street, the hub of much activity, is lined with shops, bars and wonderful restaurants.  Many young professionals and graduate students both from Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University make Shadyside home as it combines very affordable housing options with a great atmosphere .

There are many neighborhoods in and around the Law School where our students decide to make their homes.  Besides Shadyside some other notables include Squirrell Hill, Bloomfield, and the South Side to name a few.  For more information on these and other neighborhoods click here.

Often our incoming students will find housing just by visiting Pittsburgh on a weekend and driving around the campus and surrounding communities!  Our law students have also been successful in finding housing options and many listings on Craig's List. The University of Pittsburgh provides some other useful information pertaining to Off-Campus Living that includes a renter's guide, apartment listings, roommate matching service, and much more.

We know that living and the surrounding neighborhood go hand in hand with learning and an academic environment for law students and hope that the variety of available resources will guide you to the right community for you!
