Message from DC Chapter President

Greetings DC Pitt Law Alums!

Over the past few years, a core group of DC-area Pitt Law Alums led by Chip Amoe ('03) has been laying the foundation for a satellite chapter of the Pitt Law Alumni Association based here in the Washington, DC area. Through the support of Dean Mary Crossley and dedicated staff at Pitt Law, I am pleased to report that the DC Pitt Law Alumni Association is now a fully functioning association of DC-area Pitt Law alumni.

I am extremely proud of our law school and its great successes. As an alumnus, I know you are grateful for the outstanding legal education you received at the University of Pittsburgh. Through Dean Crossley's vision, Pitt Law has evolved into a truly great national law school and is expanding its reach through Washington, DC-based initiatives, including our new satellite campus here in DC. It pleases me to see the dedication Pitt Law is devoting to this region and the wide-ranging opportunities for Pitt Law grads which DC offers. Recently, I was elected to serve as the President of the DC Pitt Law Alumni Association, and I am truly honored for the trust my fellow alumni have placed in me. As a 2007 graduate of the law school, I understand the difficulty presented with re-locating to a saturated market. Without the help of alums in this area, I would not have had the professional successes I have had over the last 3 years. I am proud of my Pitt Law degree and look forward to getting more Pitt Law alums to the DC area.

As with any new organization trying to get "off the ground," the DC Pitt Law Alumni Association has had its fits and starts. However, with the recent elections of an Alumni Association Board, the hiring of a Director of Constituent Relations at the law school, an Associate Director for DC Area Outreach, and the establishment of our satellite campus, I believe that the opportunity for our Alumni Association to become firmly established in DC could not be greater. I am pleased to announce that serving with me on the Board will be Chip Amoe as the Vice President of Finance & Fundraising and Emily Ruger ('08) as the Vice President of Marketing & Outreach.

Your Alumni Association Board is here for you. We need your input to define those opportunities that we want to accomplish as an Alumni Association. I invite you to attend our next meeting on Wednesday, January 19th in the DC Office (Washington Center, 2025 M Street NW, Suite 575). I am attaching for your review, the minutes from our previous meeting. As you will see, we have many exciting events and projects planned for the upcoming year. However, we cannot accomplish our goals without the help of fellow alumni. Your help and feedback will pave the way for future alumni.

I look forward to your participation in our Alumni Association and appreciate your on-going support of the law school. Please continue to visit Pitt Law's website to view up-to-date information on various alumni events as well as the ability to provide the law school with up-to-date information about you and your practice area. Alumni are an invaluable resource for students to help shape their career paths.

Warmest regards,
Tom Beline, '07
