If I've been selected for an interview, how do I schedule an interview time?

For both the Washington, DC and Philadelphia Interview Days, the CSO will create the master interview schedule and students will not be able to select individual interview times.  Selected candidates will be notified approximately a week prior to the posted interview date. Due to the number of participating employers, requests for specific interview times cannot be entertained. Therefore, plan on arriving the night before the interviews and plan on leaving during the late evening of the interview day. Students who submit materials for the Washington, DC Interview Day AND Philadelphia Interview Day are making a commitment to accept ALL interviews for which they are selected and they may not opt to forgo the respective Interview Day. Students who fail to appear for interviews will forfeit a future interview.

For on-campus interviews
, employers will select student candidates for interviews, usually 5 days prior to the posted interview date. Students can go to the “Scheduled Interviews” tab in Symplicity to see if they have been selected for an interview.  Once bids have been placed, applicants’ interview status will automatically be indicated as “Pending.”  Upon receipt of employer decisions, applicants’ interview status may appear as follows:
  1. Pre-select – Employer has selected applicant for an on-campus interview.
  2. Alternate – Employer has requested that applicant be put on a waitlist, to be seen in the event of a cancellation in the schedule.  The Career Services Office will notify alternates via telephone or email if they are moved off the waitlist.  Please note: Most employers list their alternate candidates in order of preference.  Therefore, alternates will be inserted into the schedule accordingly.
  3. Not Selected – Employer did not grant applicant’s request for interview.

Selected students will need to sign-up for a convenient interview time via Symplicity by hitting the “Accept Pre-select” tab. Interviews will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  You cannot pick an interview time that has already been taken by another student and you cannot pick a time if it conflicts with other interviews you have scheduled.  Please note that there must be at least 20 or 30 minutes between the end of one interview and the beginning of the next).  Students failing to select an interview time will be assigned a time and notified accordingly. Failure to appear for an interview will result in the forfeiture of a future interview and require a letter of apology be sent to the employer.

In the event you must cancel an interview due to an emergency or because you have formally accepted an offer of employment, you must notify Pam G. Day, Assistant Dean for Career Services via email at pday@pitt.edu or by phone 412-648-1411 (if you are unable to access email).

  • Tip #1: Students are invited to schedule a mock interview with any of the CSO counselors.
  • Tip #2: Participate in the August Mock Interview Program and attend the Interview Workshops scheduled during the first week of the Fall semester.
  • Tip #3: Build some flexibility into your interview schedule and keep your class schedule in mind.  Interviews can start earlier or later than scheduled. When scheduling interviews, please allow AT LEAST 20 minutes between each interview.
