The Clinic requires a substantial time commitment that will include attendance at and participation in a two-hour weekly seminar, a weekly half hour individual meeting with the Supervising Attorney, a weekly two-hour group case review meeting, and one hour per week spent on answering the main telephone for the Clinical Program offices. In addition, students are expected to work on Clinic assignments an average of 10 hours per week depending on case needs. Some cases may involve travel to client offices, governmental offices, or site visits.
Prior to registration, students MUST either schedule a meeting with the instructor or attend the Pre-registration Clinic Informational Meeting.
The Environmental Law Clinic is a two semester clinic. Students will receive a grade at the conclusion of each semester. However, in the event that a student does not complete the second semester, the students shall receive a W for the course, which will nullify the grade for the prior semester.
Grading
This course will be graded with a letter grade based on student’s ability to work effectively with clients, development and implementation of the theory of the client to accomplish client goals, reflective skills development, the quality of oral and written advocacy, participation in class and group sessions, professionalism, collaborative skills development, and general competence and diligence in handling client and classroom work.
