BARCO LAW LIBRARY

1L Lexis and Westlaw Accounts Upgraded to "Full Access"

Susanna Leers, Electronic Research & Technology Services Librarian

Good news, 1L's: on Saturday, December 1 all your Lexis and Westlaw accounts will become "full access" accounts. What does this mean? Until now, you've only been able to access information in Lexis and Westlaw by using the precise citation for a desired document. So, for example, if you wanted to read the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision you'd need to know the citation for the case is 93 S. Ct. 705. Now you'll have the same access as everyone else in the law school and you'll be able to search for cases by party name(s); search for legislation by the popular name of the law (Megan's Law will get you to 110 Stat. 1345) and search all primary and secondary sources by keyword, author, title, subject, etc. You don't have to do anything to get full access, your accounts will automatically be switched on December 1. Once they're switched you should never get any "your account doesn't let you do that" messages. If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to e mail/call Susanna Leers (leers@pitt.edu or 412 648 1329) or contact one of the Lexis or Westlaw representatives.
