Jessica Litman teaches copyright law, trademark law, and Internet law at the University of Michigan School of Law. She rejoined the Michigan Law faculty in 2006 after teaching for a number of years at Wayne State University in Detroit. She was also a faculty member at the University of Michigan from 1984-1990 and has served as a visiting professor at NYU School of Law and at American University Washington College of Law. Litman is the author of the book Digital Copyright and the coauthor with Jane Ginsburg and Mary Lou Kevlin of a casebook on Trademarks and Unfair Competition Law. Her recent scholarship includes Lawful Personal Use, 85 Texas L. Rev. 1871 (2007), and Sharing and Stealing, 27 Hastings Comm/Ent L.J. 1 (2004). She is a trustee of the Copyright Society of the USA and a member of the Advisory Board for Public Knowledge, a Washington D.C.-based public advocacy organization. Litman is a member of the Intellectual Property and Internet Committee of the ACLU and 2007 Chair of the Section on Intellectual Property of the American Association of Law Schools.

Litman is a Pittsburgh native and part of a family of distinguished Pittsburgh attorneys. Her mother, Roslyn M. Litman, is an alumna of Pitt Law, an adjunct faculty member, and a member of the School of Law's Board of Visitors. Her brother, Harry P. Litman, is the former United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
