Mandatory 1L Training in Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, and Westlaw

The Barco Law Library is providing mandatory training sessions in the use of Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, and Westlaw. These are the three major legal information products used—and relied upon—by attorneys everywhere, in firms of all sizes, in the courts, in the DA’s office, etc. Law students are expected to know how to use them at any summer job and will use them throughout their careers.

The first mandatory training is an introduction to the three databases, showing how to access individual accounts and how to do simple searches for case citations.

All trainings will be held in the computer lab on the 4th floor of the library, and will take about 45 minutes.

Here’s the schedule:

Tuesday August 26

10:30 am §B3 (Teeter)
11:30 am §C1 (Sinsheimer)
2:00 pm §C2 (Sinsheimer)
3:30 pm §A1 (Burkoff)
4:30 pm §A2 (Burkoff)

Wednesday August 27

10:30 am §A3 (Brostoff)
11:30 am §C3 (Brostoff)
12:30 pm §B1 and B2 together (Bratman)

In October and next semester we will provide a deeper trainings in how to use them, but right from the start it is important for 1Ls to understand what they are and how they work. If you have any questions please contact Susanna Leers, eResearch & Technology Services Librarian, leers@pitt.edu.
