James L. Flannery

Associate Professor of Legal Writing

Prior to law school, Professor Flannery worked as a city planner. After serving as Editor-in-Chief of the law review at the Pitt law school, he graduated and clerked for two years with Judge Aldisert on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He then practiced corporate real estate law with large law firms in both Philadelphia (Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis) and Indianapolis (Barnes & Thornburg). Since leaving the active practice of law he has taught high school social studies and has served on the faculty of the Indiana University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to a case note published in University of Pittsburgh Law Review, he has published several articles in the areas of education and history. He is one of two faculty advisors to the Pittsburgh Tax Review and his current research interest involves child labor in the Pittsburgh glass industry.
