Professor Lewis is visiting Pitt Law from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she has taught Torts, Estates and Trusts, Real Property, Real Estate Transactions, and Environmental Justice. Prior to joining the faculty at Detroit Mercy, Professor Lewis was a visiting professor at Hamline University School of Law, where she taught Property and Wills & Trusts. Professor Lewis has also taught Legal Writing at Hamline, in the ABA's Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO) program, and as a summer visiting professor at Seattle University School of Law.
Prior to law school, Professor Lewis was awarded summer fellowships to study at Carnegie- Mellon University, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Following graduation from law school, Professor Lewis worked in the area of alternative dispute resolution. Later, Professor Lewis served as a judicial clerk for the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Then, Professor Lewis practiced in the areas of public interest environmental law, elder law, and family law. Professor Lewis spent a substantial portion of her career as a legal services attorney advocating for the rights of low-income persons. Professor Lewis co-authored Grandparent Resource Manual, a resource used by grandparents' rights advocates in the state of Minnesota.
