The Barco Law Library and University of Pittsburgh subscribe to many databases for law faculty and students to use for research and study.
Please note that many of these databases can only be accessed if you are at a computer in the law school (including through the wireless network).

- ABA/BNA Lawyer's Manual on Professional Conduct
- A source for news and guidance on many aspects of attorney conduct and legal ethics.
- Academic (LexisNexis)
- Access to over 6,000 news, business, and legal sources including primary source material such as case law, statutes and regulations as well as secondary source materials such as legal news and law reviews.
- American State Papers 1789-1838
- Legislative and Executive documents, many from the period between 1789 and the beginning of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set in 1817.
- Antitrust and Trade Regulation Report
- Federal, state, and international coverage of competition and deceptive trade practices law.
- Arbitration Rules- National Institutions
- Full text of each institution's rules, as well as background information, model clauses and useful bibliographies. User name and password available from reference desk.
- Arbitration Law Online
- Full-text archive database of American Review of International Arbitration.
- Bankruptcy Law Reporter
- Weekly newsletter summarizing case opinions, changes in the courts, rules, & statutes, and related issues.
- CALI Lessons
- Computer Assisted Legal Instruction has very helpful online tutorials that drill students on law course subject matter.
- CCH Tax Network
- State and Federal primary and secondary sources.
- Chronicle of Higher Education
- Daily news about everything going on in colleges and universities across the country.
- Commercial Arbitration Bibliography
- A two-part reference list of resources about international commercial arbitration, organized by UNCITRAL categories and then by countries
- Congressional Quarterly Today
- The latest in legislative news published daily by Congressional Quarterly Inc.
- Congressional - LexisNexis
- - A LexisNexis database that indexes Congressional information, and has full text of all Congressional hearings beginning in 2004. Invaluable in doing Legislative history research.
- Criminal Law Reporter
- Reports on significant developments, trends, and emerging patterns in criminal law today.
- Elder Law Library
- HCFA, IRS, ADA, Veterans....this "library" contains primary Elder Law practice sources.
- Electronic Commerce & Law Report
- - A BNA publication with weekly legal news about digital communications content, transmissions, structure in U.S. & the world.
- Employment Discrimination Report
- A BNA Weekly report with comprehensive coverage of judicial, legislative, and regulatory developments in the area of equal employment opportunity.
- Environment Reporter
- From BNA, weekly articles about environmental law and policy in U.S. & other countries.
- Environment and Safety Library
- A collection of federal and state laws, regulations, documents, and compliance tools in the area of environment and safety.
- Family Law Reporter
- A BNA weekly summary of cases and major statute changes in the area of family law.
- Federal Litigation Package
- From Matthew Bender, this "library" contains the entire Moore's Federal Practice Series, Bender Forms, & Weinstein's federal evidence.
- Feminist Theory
- An international, interdisciplinary journal that provides a forum for critical analysis and debate within feminist theory.
- Foreign Law Guide: Current Sources of Codes and Basic Legislation in Jurisdictions of the World
- Provides guidance to the basic, current primary sources of legislation in non–United States jurisdictions; indicates the availability of English translations or digests of particular laws as well as the existence of English-language introductions to the laws or legal system of these jurisdictions.
- Health Law Reporter
- The latest legal developments that influence the health care industry, including new cases, federal and state legislation, rules from federal regulators, and enforcement trends.
- Hein Online
- Full-text of hundreds of law journals from 1880's onward.
- Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective
- -A database that cumulates citations from print editions of Index to Legal Periodicals published between 1908 to 1981. Periodical coverage includes law reviews, bar association journals, university publications, yearbooks, institutes, and government publications.
- Influence
- News and contact information, to browse or search, about lobbyists, lobbying, and current pending statutory issues. See librarian for password.
- Intellectual Property Library (Matthew Bender)
- This "library" includes major treatises on IP law: Nimmer on Copyright, Chisum on Patents, Milgrim...every topic plus international treatises and primary sources for the U.S.
- International Commercial Arbitration & the Courts
- Treatise with cases and explanations about procedural issues that arise during the involvement of national courts in the international arbitration process. User name & password availabe at reference desk.
- International Trade Reporter
- Weekly newsletter summarizing agreements, disputes, taxation, cooperation, organization news about world trade.
- JStor
- "Journal Storage - the scholarly journal archive" contains a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature - across academic fields.
- Labor & Employment Law Library
- This "library" from BNA is a complete resource for cases, guidance, and news in all major areas of the field.
- Lawyers Weekly USA
- News, verdicts & settlements, law student page, technology info, law research links under & general reference.
- Legal Looseleafs & Newsletters in Print
- You can search this online index by keyword, publisher, or title to identify specialty law publications.
- Legal Scholarship Network
- This collection contains the legal scholarship in SSRN - the Social Science Research Network. Abstracts of recent legal scholarship.
- Legal Trac
- An index to legal periodicals that also provides some links to full text articles.
- LEXIS
- A major legal database available only to Pitt Law students and faculty; registration and password required.
- LLMC (Law Library Microform Collection)
- This collection is continually growing as more of the microfiche content owned by LLMC is digitized. You must visit the website to see what is currently available. Collections are grouped under the headings U.S. Federal, U.S. States, U.S. Territories, Anglo-American Collections, Foreign Jurisdictions, International Law and Organizations, & Multi-Jurisdictional Subject Collections.

- The law school subscribes to libraries from Matthew Bender:
The Elder Law Library, includes legal information pertinent to the elderly from the ADA, the CFR, the IRS, the Social Security Administration, Tax Analysts, Estate Planning experts, the Veteran's Administration, and other sources
The Federal Litigation Package includes forms, jury instructions, Moore's Federal Practice, the Federal Judicial Center's Manual on Scientific Evidence, Weinstein's Federal Evidence, and other useful sources.
The Intellectual Property Library includes Chisum On Patents, Milgrim on Trade Secrets, Nimmer on Copyright, and other treatises and handbooks on Intellectual Property Law. - Medical Research Law & Policy Report

- Oxford University Press: International Law in Domestic Courts
- Brings you a regularly updated repository of domestic cases in international law from over 60 jurisdictions archived back to the year 2000. The cases are selected by local reports in conjunction with our editorial board and feature expert commentary, full texts of judgments in their original language, and translations of key passages of non-English judgments into English.
- PACER
- An electronic public access service of the United States federal courts run by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Pacer allows users to obtain case and docket information from the Federal Appellate, District and Bankruptcy courts. Registration and login are required.
- Patent, Trademark, & Copyright Journal
- This BNA publication has reported weekly news on patent, trademark and copyright law since 1996.
- Patent, Trademark & Copyright Law Daily
- BNA's daily update on Intellectual Property law.
- Privacy and Security Law Report
- BNA publication containing the latest privacy and security legal developments—from online marketing to employee screening to patient privacy.
- RIA Tax Sources
- This useful tax law database includes U.S. Tax Reporter, Fed. Tax Coordinator, WG&L Journals, all federal primary materials, legislative analysis, and more. If you have already registered with RIA, log in at here.

- This BNA publication reports Federal and state developments in the regulation of securities and futures trading and accounting, with coverage of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodities Futures Trading Commission, industry, courts, and Congress.
- Shepard's Citations
- For patrons who don't have full Lexis accounts, Barco subscribes to this database that has lists of cases and other legal sources that reference back to a case you already know about. You will need to be logged in by a librarian.
- SmartCILP
- This site allows law faculty to access weekly E-mail reports from the Current Index to Legal Periodicals.
- SSRN (Social Science Research Network)
- SSRN promotes the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks including the Legal Scholarship Network. Contains papers that are works in progress as well as completed and published work.
- State Capital Universe
- State regulations and statutes.
- Supreme Court Records and Briefs
- Records and briefs from cases before the Supreme Court from the final years of the court’s fourth chief justice, John Marshall, through the first ten years of the court’s 15th chief justice, Warren Earl Burger.
- Tax Management Weekly Report
- This BNA report has Tax and Accounting News from the Treasury Dep't, IRS, courts, and Congress.
- TRACfed
- This unique database contains a wealth of information about the federal government and its enforcement activities.
- United Nations Treaty Collection
- Full text of treaties deposited with the U.N.
- U.S. Law Week
- This informative weekly BNA newsletter reports the most significant cases and key legislative, regulatory, and pre-decisional developments, across the country, across all areas of the law.
- Westlaw
- Major legal database available only to Pitt Law faculty and students. Registration and password required.
- White Collar Crime Report
- BNA report on legal developments affecting the prosecution and defense of fraud and other white collar crimes.
- Wilson Web
- Barco subscribes toIndex to Legal Periodicals Retrospective through Wilson.
- World Arbitration & Mediation Report
This database has current information on new programs, providers, legislation, industries choosing ADR and the way the courts are deciding relevant cases. - World Intellectual Property Report
- A BNA report that has monthly news and analysis of developments in the regulation and enforcement of intellectual property rights worldwide.
- World Trade Online
- International trade news since 1992, speeches, statements, and reports from trade officials and the WTO, full text of trade agreements.
- Worldcat
- The WorldCat database is the OCLC Online Union Catalog. It contains more than 43 million records describing items owned by our libraries or libraries around the world. Use it to locate materials that aren't owned by any of the Pitt libraries.
