Making an IMPACT

by Delia Bouwers Bianchin, '97, President of Pitt Law Alumni Association

Greetings to you and your families!

It is an honor for me to serve as your Pitt Law Alumni Association President this year. I look forward to working with you to help empower our alma mater to continue in its pattern of excellence!

You may be asking yourself, with so many demands on my time, why would I consider contributing additional time to Pitt Law?

Because we, as alumni, can be an invaluable resource to Pitt Law students—a fact too often overlooked as we go about our busy, daily lives. Current law students really do need alumni support. And, in return, we have the ability to make a huge impact on the life of a student—someone whose concerns and decisions may be not unlike our own were five, 10 or 30+ years ago.

Our individual insights, experiences and positions are a rich resource for law students. And, as we support and enrich the lives of law students, we directly enhance the mission of the Law School.

There are so many ways, with a relatively minor investment of time, in which you can help enrich and support a law student’s education. Share your experiences, giving much-needed career advice and planning. Volunteer to judge moot court competitions. Help provide student externships and/or internships in your firm or company. Participate in a mock trial. Act as a mentor. Any of these small gestures can make a significant difference in the lives of law students.

You also may consider making a financial donation. Every penny donated to the Pitt Law Alumni Association funds need-based scholarships awarded to the most accomplished Law School candidates.

Or consider becoming involved in the life of the School again—simply because it’s fun! Reconnect and network with classmates and professors at one of the Pitt Law Alumni Association events. Our signature event is the annual Alumni Dinner and Reunions, which are open to all alumni and scheduled for September 28–29, 2007.

It is my hope and desire that together we can invigorate the Pitt Law Alumni Association. Active, vital law alumni are so crucial to the continued health and vitality of the Law School. Concerned and active alumni truly do enrich the life of the Law School, fellow colleagues and the practice of law. Together, we, as Pitt Law alumni, have the power and the ability to help shape the future of the School of Law and the students it serves.
