Michael Madison Assists With Fair Use Statement

Publish Date/Time:

Professor Michael Madison served as a legal advisor to the team that prepared the recent "Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use for Research Libraries," a set of copyright guidelines for librarians facing undercertainty as existing copyright law is applied to new practices in librarianship.  The best practices statement was developed for the Association of Research Libraries by the Center for Social Media and the Washington College of Law at American University, which have produced a series of best practices statements for a variety of creative communities since 2006.  The team has credited Professor Madison's research on fair use as supplying a strong theoretical justification for its work, and Professor Madison has served as a legal advisor to each of the statements.
