January 4, 2013

In preparation for our first class meeting on Monday, January 7, you should read pp. 340-344 (U.S. Dept of Agriculture v. Moreno, through n. 5); 348-355 (Moore v. East Cleveland); 399-401 & 404-406 (nn. 1-7) (Braschi v. Stahl Assoc.);  and 430-435 (Michael H. v. Gerald D.; you need not read notes accompanying Michael H. at this time).  These readings are all in  Weisberg & Appleton, Modern Family Law: Cases and Materials (4th ed. 2010).

In reading these materials, you should consider the following questions:  From a legal perspective, what does “family” mean?  Who decides what the legal definition of “family” or “family member” is?

Please note that the course syllabus has been posted on the course TWEN site.  You should also review the syllabus before the first class.
