John Burkoff Comments on Trial of Accused Ringleader in Greensburg Torture Case

Pitt Law Professor John Burkoff commented on the likely advantage to the prosecution of facing multiple trials in the case of the Greensburg roommates charged with torturing and killing 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty almost three years ago. Jury selection in the trial of the alleged ringleader, Ricky Smyrnes, began Monday, and the trial is set to begin Feb. 4. “When you have multiple trials like this you have an advantage for the prosecution,” Burkoff said. “They have heard the witnesses before, and they can adapt to what they said before.”
