David Harris on State Immigration Law’s Effect on Police and National Security
Professor David Harris’s remarks at the University of Arizona College of Law on Thursday, Feb. 25 on the state’s immigration law and its effects on policing and national security were covered in a story in the Arizona Daily Star. Explaining how strong intelligence gathering efforts depend on trust between police and all members of the public, Professor Harris said Arizona’s S.B. 1070 will put immigrant communities in fear of the police. “The worst thing you could do is replace trust with fear…You replace trust with fear, people stop communicating. People begin not to talk, not to pass along information.”
