Professor Vélez Martínez to Present at Multiple Meetings and Conferences

On March 16, 2012, Professor Sheila I. Vélez Martínez will be presenting at the PBA Minority Conference. She will be presenting in the Panel The State of Immigration regarding States efforts to enforce immigration laws.

Professor Vélez Martínez was also invited to serve as a discussant at the 2012 Conable Conference in International Studies. The theme of the conference this year is, "Refugees, Asylum, Law, and Expert Testimony: The Construction of Africa & the Global South in Comparative Perspective."

This will be held at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Professor Vélez Martínez will participate on the following panel: Fraudulence and Credibility in Asylum Claims from April 12-14

On March 23rd, Professor Vélez Martínez will be conducting a CLE on Special Protections for Immigrant Victims of Violence. This event is sponsored by the Pro Bono Center of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation and will be held from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

The CLE is offered for free to ACBA attorneys to motivate them to represent immigrant victims of domestic violence pro-bono.

On May 11-23, Professor Vélez Martínez will be presenting at the LatCrit South-North Exchange on Theory, Culture and Law conference, "The Changing Face of Justice: Access to the Inter-American System of Human Rights."

Specifically, she will be presenting a paper on LGBTI asylum claims from the Caribbean.
