George Pike Testifies before the PA House Judiciary Committee
On Tuesday, September 18, Prof. George H. Pike, Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Barco Law Library, testified before the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee at a public hearing on HB 2590, a proposal to permit state and local prosecutors to obtain a person’s Internet Service subscriber information with an administrative subpoena when investigating child sexual abuse or exploitation. Presently, a search warrant is required. Prof. Pike provided the Committee with information about the implications of the legislative proposal on individual privacy and Fourth Amendment rights, particularly when the subpoena would be used to obtain the Internet Protocol address that links a personal computer to the Internet.
