David Harris on Pittsburgh's Efforts to Improve Community-Police Relations
Efforts to improve community-police relations are the driving force behind a working group launched in response to tensions that arose after Homewood resident Jordon Miles’ encounter with three Pittsburgh officers. Pitt Law Professor David Harris is working alongside 39 other community leaders and advocates to publicize the group’s message, hoping to improve relations between law enforcement and residents.
Harris, who has studied and written extensively about similar situations and efforts taken to rectify those situations in cities like Detroit and Cincinnati, says that, "Only when the police and citizens are working together do we do everything we can to make this a better city and a safer city."
