Additional Information

Students will be expected to complete all assignments prior to class and participate in class discussions. The Law School’s attendance policy will be enforced in this class. If a student is absent more than three times, the student will receive a “U” (Unsatisfactory) for the course. The course will meet for two hours once a week.

Grading Details

Grades will be based on a written final exam (85%) and class participation (15%).

Description

The course includes a study of the various types of property interests in oil and gas, the oil and gas lease, the rights and duties of the lessee and lessor, and conveyances and assignments of oil and gas estates and interests. This course will review specific types of agreements used in the oil and gas industry for exploration, production, development and investment. This course will also examine and provide practical insight into oil and gas law practice in Pennsylvania and review Pennsylvania statutes, regulations and relevant case law applicable to drilling and producing oil and gas in the Commonwealth. This course will address the vast potential of the Marcellus shale reserves in the Appalachian Basin and its related litigation and environmental issues.
