Professor Hannah Wiseman graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College in 2002 and received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2007. At Yale Law, Professor Wiseman was a managing editor of the Yale Journal on Regulation and received the Israel H. Peres prize for the best student note or comment appearing in the Yale Law Journal in 2007. After receiving her J.D., Professor Wiseman clerked for the Honorable Patrick E. Higginbotham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She then spent two years as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas School of Law, where she taught Environmental Law, Energy Law, Electricity Law, and Land Use & Environmental Law. She is also a member of the Texas Bar and has served as of counsel on historic zoning matters.
Professor Wiseman’s scholarship addresses issues at the intersection of land use, energy, and environmental law. She focuses on innovative local approaches to the regulation of land use and the challenges of effectively governing the siting of energy infrastructure. She also regularly writes and lectures about the regulation of hydraulic fracturing, a prevalent natural gas extraction practice. Professor Wiseman’s articles have been published in the Georgetown Law Journal, South Carolina Law Review, Fordham Environmental Law Review, Tulane Environmental Law Journal, and Villanova Environmental Law Journal. Her most recent article—a coauthored piece about innovation in distributed renewable technology—is forthcoming in the Emory Law Journal. Professor Wiseman has received the Warren E. Burger Prize from the American Inns of Court and a Burton Award for Legal Achievement for her writing.
