2009/10 Curricular Updates/Announcements

Courses Added or Expanded since publication of curriculum materials in March 2009; fuller information is available in the course descriptions.

Fall 2009 - Students who wish to add these courses can do so during final add/drop the first week of class.

  • Alterntive Dispute Resolution - The enrollment limit for this course taught by visiting Professor Judi Teeter has been increased to 24.
  • Antitrust (3 credits) - This course has been moved from the spring to the fall term.  The class will be taught by Visiting Professor Hill and will now meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 - 2:15.  The first class meeting will be Monday, August 31. 
  • European Union Law (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Visiting Professor Ziegler on an accelerated basis over a four week period, meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 - 7:50 on the following dates: 8/24. 8/26, 8/31, 9/2, 9/9, and 9/14.  On Friday, September 11th ONLY, the course will meet from 1:00 - 4:20.
  • Land Use (2 credits) - This course will be taught by new Adjunct Professor Lucas and will meet on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:20 PM.
  • Law & Human Behavior (3 credits) - The enrollment limit for this course with Professor George Taylor has been increased to 88.  The class meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:45 PM.
  • The Law of Professional Sports (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Silverman and will meet on Wednesdays from 8:25 - 10:15 AM.

Spring 2010 - These courses can be selected when students register for the spring semester.

  • Advanced Torts (2 credits) - The enrollment limit for this course has been increased to 75 and the exam format has changed.  There will now be an in-class exam which will be added to the Exam Schedule for Friday, May 7th at 9:00 AM.  Students can add the course during the remainder of the add/drop period which ends tomorrow, October 16th at 3:00 PM.  The add/drop period will be extended through Wednesday, October 21st, only for those students who are attempting to add or drop this course.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution, Intro to (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Beckett-McWalter and will meet on Tuesdays, 6:30 - 8:20PM.
  • International Criminal Law Seminar (3 credits) - Optional Component for students enrolled in the International Criminal Law Seminar with Professor Charles Jalloh: Independent Study/Field Trip to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (1 credit). Please refer to the course description for details regarding the additional credit/Field Trip option.
  • Labor Law: Private Sector (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Schroeder. 
  • Pre-Trial Practice (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professors Baicker-McKee and Matzus.
  • Regulation of Government Influence (1 credit) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Sandler and will meet on an accelerated basis for two weekends in February.  Please refer to the course description for details on the meeting time.

  • Research in Environmental Law & Practice (1 credit) - This course will be taught by Professor Pike and will meet on Thursdays, 9:00 - 10:15 AM.

  • State-building & the Law: The Kosovo Experience (1 credit) – This course will be taught by Visiting Professor Osmani and will meet on Wednesdays, 2:30-3:20 PM.

  • Telecommunications Law (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Akers.
  • Toxic Torts (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professors Brett and Mackler and will meet on Mondays, 3:30 - 5:20 PM.
  • Trademark Law Practice (2 credits) - This course will be taught by Adjunct Professor Pritchard and will meet on Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6:20 PM.

 

Courses Cancelled

Fall 2009

  • Anthropology of Law (3 credits) - The Anthropology dept. has cancelled this course.  The University Registrar's Office will automatically drop this course from the schedules of students who registered for it.  If the cancellation of the course causes a student who was registered for it to go below full-time, you need to contact the Law School Registrar's Office as soon as possible to adjust your schedule.          
  • Criminal Appellate Practicum (4 credits) - This course has been cancelled.  The University Registrar's Office will automatically drop this course from the schedules of students who registered for it.  If the cancellation of the course causes a student who was registered for it to go below full-time, you need to contact the Law School Registrar's Office as soon as possible to adjust your schedule.

Spring 2010

  • Antitrust - This course has been moved from the spring to the fall semester. 

 

Scheduling, credit, and instructor changes 

Fall 2009

  • Antitrust (3 credits) - The meeting time for this course has been changed.  It will now meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 - 2:15.  The first meeting for the course will be Monday, August 31.
  • Chinese for Lawyers I- The faculty and class meeting time for this course have changed.  The course will be taught by adjunct professor Heidi Zhang.  The course will meet on Fridays from 9:00 - 10:50 AM.
  • Healthcare Antitrust - This class will meet from August 27th - October 8th, on Thursdays from 5:00 - 6:50 PM.
  • The Law of Art & Culture - The start time for this course has changed.  It will meet from 6:00 to 7:50 PM on Thursdays.
  • Title IX Seminar (now 2 credits) - The credit value for this course has changed; the 3 credit course has been cancelled and a 2 credit course has been added.  The class will now meet for just eight weeks, August 25 - October 13, from 2:30 - 4:20 PM on Tuesdays.  Students who were registered for the 3 credit course do not need to do anything; the University Registrar will automatically drop the course from your schedule.  If you were registered for the 3 credit course, you will NOT automatically be registered for the 2 credit course.  The two credit course may be added during add/drop.

 Spring 2010

  • Chinese For Lawyers II - The course will be taught by adjunct professor Heidi Zhang and will meet on Fridays from 9:00 - 10:50 AM.
  • Democracy & Election Law - The course was incorrectly listed in the spring.  It will not be offered and has been removed from the registration materials.
  • Employment Discrimination (now 2 credits) - The credit value for this course has changed.  The 3 credit course has been cancelled and the 2 credit course has been added.
  • Insurance Law - This credit value for this course increased to 3 credits this semester.  It will meet on Mondays from 2:30 - 4:20 and Tuesdays from 3:20 - 4:20 PM.
  • Topics in Food & Drug Law - The course was originally scheduled to meet for two hours per week during the first half of the sesmester, but has been changed to meet for two hours per week during the second half, to begin on Monday, March 1.
  • Workers' Compensation Practicum - The Friday class meetings from 1:00 - 3:00 PM may be held at a location outside the Law School.
