2012 -2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards
The University of Pittsburgh Law Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 1973 to recognize graduates of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law who, through the accomplishments in their careers and contributions to their profession and/or their communities, have exhibited outstanding leadership qualities and enhanced the reputation of the Law School.
The University of Pittsburgh Law Alumni Association is pleased to announce this’s Distinguished Alumni Awardees.
Mr. Arnold Silverman graduated cum laude in 1962 as a member of the Order of the Coif. Since graduating from Pitt Law, Arnie has specialized in intellectual property law and has been a member of Eckert Seamans for over 30 years. Arnie is a Board Member of the Law Alumni Association and has previously served as Board President. Additionally, he is actively involved with the Pitt Alumni Association as a Board Member, previously served as Secretary of the Board, and was a member of the Executive and Strategic Planning Committee. Arnie has been a committed Law Fellow donor for over 20 years and has recently been inducted into the Golden Gavel Society in recognition of his 50th class reunion. His commitment to Pitt Law and the community has been an incredible asset to the legal profession and it is an honor to bestow upon him this celebrated award.
Mr. William Pietragallo is a member of the class of 1972. In 1987, Bill co-founded the local firm Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP. He continues to expand the firm’s incredible reputation concentrated in the areas of commercial litigation, business, securities, and complex civil litigation. Additionally, he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, teaching Litigation Planning and Strategy. Since graduating, Bill has been actively involved with law alumni events, the Law Alumni Board, and student engagement. Bill is currently a Law Fellow donor and his efforts as an Alumnus have been an incredible contribution to the law community.
Debra McCloskey Todd
The Honorable Debra McCloskey Todd is a 1982 graduate of Pitt law, where she served on Law Review. Immediately upon graduation, Justice Todd began working for the U.S. Steel Corporation, then in 1987 transitioned to private practice law. In 1999 she was elected as judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. In 2004 she earned her LLM from the University of Virginia School of Law in Judicial Process. Three years later, in 2007, Todd was elected a justice of the Supreme Court of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth. Justice Todd is a member of the Law Alumni Association, the Pitt Alumni Association, and a seven year member of the Law Fellows. Her unwavering commitment to Pitt Law, the bench, and her incredible accomplishments truly qualify Justice Todd for this award.
