Ron Brand on US Recognition of Foreign Law

On Friday, February 15, 2008, Professor Ronald A. Brand spoke on Consent and Reciprocity in the Application of Foreign and International Law at the Duke University School of Law as part of the symposium on “Public and Private Law in the Global Adjudication System.”  The symposium was sponsored by the Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law and Duke’s Center for International and Comparative Law.  Professor Brand’s presentation surveyed the situations in which U.S. courts may be asked to recognize and apply foreign and international law, and provided a rationale for stronger consideration of party consent to the application of foreign law and reciprocity in the application of foreign public law.
