Letter to Current Students from Dean Carter
I hope that your summer so far has been productive and enjoyable. The faculty and staff are preparing for your return, and we are all looking forward to another great year.
As you know, this is my first year as Dean. I am honored to join the Pitt and Pittsburgh communities in this exciting new role. I am already incredibly impressed by the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff, and energized by the alumni and other friends of the law school whom I’ve met thus far. The University of Pittsburgh School of Law is a dynamic and excellent law school, and I look forward to sharing with you my vision of how we can move the law school to even greater heights. You have my commitment that the Law School will remain steadfast in our commitment to you and your professional development.
What’s new at the School of Law over the summer? Our Director of Career Services continues her efforts to expand and improve the operations and programming of the Career Services Office, with the goal of providing you with increased support and career opportunities. She and I have been in close contact since my appointment as Dean. I have already met over the summer with numerous employers and alumni in Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, and Northeast Ohio, in order to share with them the many ways in which Pitt Law students are prepared and eager to begin their professional careers. I encourage you to take full advantage of all the programming and opportunities that the Career Services Office provides throughout the academic year.
Our faculty has maintained their sustained commitment to teaching over the summer, with several faculty members preparing to teach new and exciting courses. They have also continued to publish influential legal scholarship that has a positive impact on the law and the legal profession, and which increases the Law School’s visibility and reputation for scholarly excellence.
Finally, I am truly looking to getting to know you all. The law school feels empty without you all being here: I’m looking forward to your return next month. We’ll see you soon.
