2024 Mark A. Nordenberg Lecture in Law, Medicine, and Society: "What We've Become: Living and Dying in a Country of Arms"

The 2024 Nordenberg Lecture will be given by Dr. Jonathan Metzl, Frederick B. Rentschler II Professor of Sociology and Psychiatry, Director of the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society, Vanderbilt University. His talk will expand on themes from his latest book. Looking closely at the cycle in which mass shootings lead to shock, horror, calls for action, and, ultimately, political gridlock, Metzl explores what happens to the sould of a nation - and the meanings of safety and community - when we normalize violence as an acceptable trade-off for freedom.

This program has been approved by the PA CLE board for 1.5 hours of substantive credit. This presentation is free to Pitt Law faculty, staff, and students and those not seeking CLE credit. There will be a $45 fee for processing CLE credit for all others.
