The Barco Law Library and University of Pittsburgh subscribe to many databases for law faculty and students to use for research and study. 
Please note that many of these databases can only be accessed if you are at a computer in the law school (including through the wireless network).

ABA/BNA Lawyer's Manual on Professional Conduct 
A source for news and guidance on many aspects of attorney conduct and legal ethics.
Academic (LexisNexis) is now Nexis Uni
Access to over 6,000 news, business, and legal sources including primary source material such as case law, statutes and regulations as well as secondary source materials such as legal news and law reviews.
ALM publications
American Lawyer Media publications provide regional and national legal news.

American State Papers 1789-1838 (Readex)
Legislative and Executive documents, many from the period between 1789 and the beginning of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set in 1817.

CALI Lessons
Computer Assisted Legal Instruction has very helpful online tutorials that drill students on law course subject matter.
CCH Tax Network
State and Federal primary and secondary sources. Campuswide and off-campus access. Users may be required to create a username/password login the first time they use the database, and may be required to log in for subsequent use.
Cheetah (Wolters Kluwer)

Daily news about everything going on in colleges and universities across the country.
Congressional - ProQuest
- A database that indexes Congressional information, and has full text of all Congressional hearings from 1830 to the present. Invaluable in doing Legislative history research.
Congressional Serial Set
The US Congressional Serial Set (from Readex) contains all of the US Senate and House of Representatives Reports, Documents, and Journals and constitutes a rich source of primary source material on all aspects of American history including many maps and tables. Upon completion, the digital version of the Serial Set will consist of approximately 13,800 volumes and over 12 million pages and will cover the time period 1817 through 1994.
Connecticut Law Tribune
Connecticut Law Tribune is Connecticut’s only weekly newspaper devoted to covering the legal community, giving you the latest developments in Connecticut’s courts, law firms and legislature.

The Daily Business Review Insider
Daily Business Review (DBR) is designated the official court newspaper by the chief judges of the state judicial circuits in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties and by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The Delaware Business Court Insider
The Delaware Business Court Insider, a weekly electronic newsletter distributed every Wednesday, will provide the latest news, analysis, case summaries and reporting on developments in Delaware corporate law.
Environment Reporter Bloomberg BNA
From Bloomberg BNA, weekly articles about environmental law and policy in U.S. & other countries.
Environmental Law Reporter
The ELR, published by the Environmental Law Institute, is an environmental, natural resources, toxic tort, energy, health/safety, and land use law research tool containing original source documents, editorial summaries, and expert analysis on state, federal, and international issues.
Executive Branch Documents 1789-1932 (ProQuest)
Executive Branch Documents 1789-1932 includes nearly all of the 200,000+ executive branch titles listed in the 1909 Checklist (created by the Superintendent of Documents) that were not included in the U.S. Serial Set, as well as an additional well-chosen 200,000 titles from 1910-1932.
To search this database, click on "Advanced" under the search box at the top of the page. On the next page, in the lefthand menu under "Document Types," unclick "Select All," scroll down and select "Executive Branch Documents."

GovInfo from the GPO has links to primary law from the three branches of US federal government.
The Hague Academy Collected Courses Online
The Hague Academy is a prestigious international institution for the study and teaching of Public and Private International Law and related subjects.  Its purpose is to encourage a thorough and impartial examination of the problems arising from international relations in the field of law. The courses deal with the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, including legislation and case law.  All courses at the Academy are, in principle, published in the language in which they were delivered in the Collected Courses of the Hague Academy of International Law.
Hein Online
Best known for its full-text of hundreds of law journals from 1880's onward, HeinOnline also has a growing list of classic legal treatises,  the US Legislative History library, the US Statutes at Large, the US Code, the Code of Federal Regulations and the Federal Register, and more historic and current legal sources, all in pdf format. 
Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective, 1908-1981
This retrospective database indexes over 750 legal periodicals published in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Annual surveys of the laws of a jurisdiction, annual surveys of the federal courts, yearbooks, annual institutes, and annual reviews of the work in a given field or on a given topic will also be covered.
International Trade Reporter Bloomberg BNA
Weekly newsletter summarizing agreements, disputes, taxation, cooperation, organization news about world trade from BNA.
Investor-State LawGuide
ISLG is a one-stop resource for international investment law research, providing access to treaties, rules of arbitration, decisions and awards, and other related documents. Click on the gray "Log In" button in the upper right to get into the database. 
"Journal Storage - the scholarly journal archive" contains a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature - across academic fields.
JURIS Arbitration Law
This subscription provides database access to more than 160 proprietary Treatises, Practice Manuals, and Monographs that cannot be found on other platforms. With both proprietary and public domain, ArbitrationLaw is a comprehensive research tool.
JURIST Legal News & Research
JURIST is a web-based legal news and real-time legal research service produced as a public service at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. JURIST covers legal news stories based on their substantive importance rather than on their mass-market or commercial appeal.
Kluwer Study Guides for Pitt Law Students
The collection of Kluwer Study Guides is available to Pitt Law students only. The titles include: Examples & Explanations, Emanuel Law Outlines, Emanuel CrunchTime, Glannon Guides, and other study guides for all law school subjects. On the login page, under Sign In With, click "Library Card Login", select "University of Pittsburgh", and enter your student id (the first part of your email address) in the blank for "library card number".
Labor & Employment Law Library Bloomberg BNA
This "library" from Bloomberg BNA is a complete resource for cases, guidance, and news in all major areas of the field.
Law 360
Law360 is a current-awareness tool providing faculty with the most recent breaking news in over 30 practice areas. Because it is owned by LexisNexis, Law360 content is also available via your Pitt Law Lexis account. However, it is only available at computers located in the Barco Law Building.
The Legal Intelligencer
As the oldest law journal in the U.S., The Legal Intelligencer takes advantage of 170 years as the expert source of legal information for professionals in Philadelphia, its suburbs and the state of Pennsylvania.
Legal Scholarship Network
This collection contains the legal scholarship in SSRN - the Social Science Research Network. Abstracts of recent legal scholarship.

An index to legal periodicals that also provides some links to full text articles.
Legislative Insight (ProQuest)
The legislative histories in this database are comprised of full-text publications generated in the course of congressional lawmaking. Each history includes the full text of the public law itself, all versions of related bills, law-specific Congressional Record excerpts, committee hearings, reports, and prints. .
Lexis Advance
A major legal database available only to Pitt Law students and faculty; registration and password required.

LexisNexis Digital Library
Available law ebooks from LexisNexis. Pitt authentication. 
LII - Legal Information Institute
The LII is housed at the Cornell Law School and has been providing open access to law since 1992. Includes primary law from federal and state jurisdictions.
Litigation is a special report for coverage and analysis of the biggest cases, profiles of successful litigation firms and a review of the year’s highlights and trends.
LLMC (Law Library Microform Collection)
This collection is continually growing as more of the microfiche content owned by LLMC is digitized. You must visit the website to see what is currently available. Collections are grouped under the headings U.S. Federal, U.S. States, U.S. Territories, Anglo-American Collections, Foreign Jurisdictions, International Law and Organizations, & Multi-Jurisdictional Subject Collections.
Max Planck Institute Encyclopedia of Public International Law
MPEPIL represents an updated, comprehensive work covering the central and essential topics in international law; essential for anyone working in international law.
The Making of Modern Law (Gale)
"The Making of Modern Law: Legal Treatises 1800-1926" provides digital images on every page of 22,000 legal treatises on US and British law published from 1800 through 1926. Full-text searching on more than 10 million pages provides researchers access to critical legal history in ways not previously possible.
National Consumer Law Center Library
The Barco Law Library owns the set of 20 print treatises published by the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) with access to the “companion websites” of these treatises. These books are practical guides that can be used by laypeople or attorneys in dealing with a wide range of consumer law issues. They include practice aids such as useful forms and sample documents. National Journal Group
Our National Journal subscription gives users access to National Journal Daily and National Journal Hotline, with nonpartisan insight on politics and policy.

The New Jersey Law Journal

The New York Law Journal
The New York Law Journal (NYLJ) is the largest selling legal daily in the country with the latest news on prosecutors, judges, legislators and law firms, along with in-depth analysis.
Nexis Uni
Access to primary source material such as case law, statutes and regulations as well as secondary source materials such as legal news and law reviews.
An electronic public access service of the United States federal courts run by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Pacer allows users to obtain case and docket information from the Federal Appellate, District and Bankruptcy courts. Registration and login are required.
Pittsburgh Legal Journal Opinions
Pittsburgh Legal Journal Opinions published on the Allegheny County Bar Association website. As of Nov. 2009 these opinions are no longer available in print, and are only available on the ACBA website.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
One of Pittsburgh's daily newspapers, the Post-Gazette covers local, state, national and world news. We also have access to the PGe e-edition of the Post-Gazette, which is the exact digital replica of the daily print edition; this can be viewed in your browser or downloaded as a pdf. 
PLI: Practicing Law Institute
The Practising Law Institute is a nonprofit continuing legal education and professional business training organization. Barco's subscription to PLI's eBook library provides unlimited access to PLI Treatises, Course Handbooks, and Answer Books — in addition to searchable legal Forms and PLI program Transcripts.
Practical Law Company
The Practical Law Company is owned by Thomson Reuters and available to law school staff and faculty. This Gale database contains nearly 11 million pages of records and briefs brought before the U.S. Supreme Court in the period 1832-1978.
Tax & Accounting Center (Bloomberg BNA)
This Bloomberg BNA database includes everything a tax attorney might need, with primary and secondary sources for tax law on the state, federal, and international levels.
Tax Notes
Tax Notes is a collection of publications by Tax Analysts, a non-profit tax publisher. Tax Notes’ news publications provide comprehensive coverage of tax news and commentary as well as access to primary sources of tax law. Users may need to click the orange "Sign in" button in the upper right of the page. All new users must set up username/password access while within the Pitt Law IP range.
Texas Lawyer
For members of one of the biggest and most influential bars in the country, Texas Lawyer newspaper is the number-one source of information. Every week, the best-selling legal publication in Texas offers Lone Star litigators award-winning coverage, legal news and information, scholarly articles, analysis, commentary, reviews and columns.
This unique database contains a wealth of information about the federal government and its enforcement activities.
Unalex is an international information system on European and International Uniform Law with special emphasis on international private and civil procedural law. It includes cases and commentary.
United Nations Treaty Collection

The WorldCat database is the OCLC Online Union Catalog. It contains more than 43 million records describing items owned by our libraries or libraries around the world. Use it to locate materials that aren't owned by any of the Pitt libraries.
