Management of Undergraduate Access to the Barco Law Building During Exam Periods Spring 2018

In order to be proactive with managing undergraduate access to the Barco Law Building during the undergraduate exam period (Monday, April 23rd through Saturday, April 28th) and the consequent potential for disruption of our own students’ preparation for their final exams, I wish to apprise our students of steps that Pitt Law is taking to proactively manage this situation.  This plan has been developed in consultation with both the Student Bar Association (SBA) and the Pitt Law Building and Safety Committee.

During both the Pitt Law exam and the University’s undergraduate exam period, Pitt Law will locate a Security Guard on the Barco 1st Floor (near the bank of elevators and the Forbes Avenue entrance) or at the Barco Law Library’s Circulation Desk.  The guard will require presentation of university issued identification showing that the individual is a Pitt Law student and will utilize a current listing of law students as verification for access to the law building from Saturday, April 21st through Friday, April 27th during the following time periods:

  • Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 a.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 22nd from noon until 8 p.m.
  • Monday, April 23rd from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. (in the Library)
  • Tuesday, April 24th from noon until 11 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 25th from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 26th from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.
  • Friday, April 27th from 5:00 until 10 p.m. (in the Library)

In addition, the law building’s ground floor will require identification card access to gain entry to the building during the times listed above.  To maintain security, it will be imperative that the exterior doors (near the SideBar Café on the Ground Floor) are not propped open.  Please note that the Barco 1st floor rear door, as well as the first floor entrance to stairwell A and the new Bouquet Street side door will be locked on the weekends of April 21st, April 28th and May 5th; as well as weekdays at 5:00 p.m. from Monday, April 23rd through Tuesday, May 8th.

Signage will be displayed prominently in the Student Lounge and in the Student Bar Association Office on the Ground Floor, on Barco’s 1st Floor, in the Barco Law Library and on the various plasma T.V. Screens located throughout the building that shares the following message:

If Pitt Law students discover undergrads anywhere in the building (i.e., the ground floor student lounge; study rooms; computer labs; the library; etc.) during the upcoming undergraduate and Law School exam periods, please advise the 4th floor circulation desk staff (ext. 8-1323), the administrative offices receptionist in Barco Room # 207 (ext. 8-1490) or the security guard located on the first floor (near the front door entrance) and they will take action.

For your information, effective Tuesday, April 24th through Tuesday, May 8th the Barco Law Building will conform to our normal exam period access schedule which is as follows:
