Pitt Law Vis Moot Team Makes History

The Pitt Law Vis Moot team of students George Apessos (JD '20), Nick Bencsics (JD '20), David Zwier (JD '20) and Tarek Maalouf (JD '21) made it to the round of eight teams last week at the Williem Vis International Commericial Aribitration Moot compeition. There were 249 teams from more than 80 countries participating in the virtual moot. The moot is typically held in Vienna, Austria each year. Despite being virtual, the competition was still held on Vienna time, so arguments began as early as 2 a.m. in Pittsburgh. After making the round of 64 teams, George, Nick, Tarek and David defeated one of the strongest teams in the competition from the University of Ottawa and teams from the University of Southern Denmark and Buerius Law School. This is the first time a Pitt Law Vis Moot team has made it as far as the final eight.

The winning team was coached by Elizabeth Taylor (JD '19) and Nick Weltz (JD '20) and accompanied by Professor Ronald Brand and Professor Emeritus Harry Flechtner.
