Students are encouraged to complement the course by enrolling in Lawyering Process I: Interviewing and Counseling or Lawyering Process II: Negotiation, since the theoretical/practice-based content of each will enrich the skills training derived from working with actual clients. Lawyering Process III is also available in the summer as an Externship.

Consistent attendance: 25%; performance 75%.
Description
Students will be able to gain live client experience in performing an ensemble of essential lawyering skills, including: interviewing, counseling, negotiation, document/pleading drafting, and representation before the Court of Common Pleas. Modeling, training and supervision will be provided by experienced staff attorneys at the field-based setting in Washington, PA. Family law – Protection from Abuse, custody, divorce, child dependency – will be the principal area of practice, with students provided preparatory substantive instruction/materials by staff attorneys and Professor. Family Law is not a required prerequisite. Scheduling of clinical hours will be adjusted to accommodate each student’s other class and work commitments. Transportation costs associated with travel to/from the office will be reimbursed.
