An introduction to the conceptual and practical issues involved in the modern practice of family law. Topics include: The legal definition of marriage; the rights, powers, duties, and obligations among family members; the extent and means of state involvement in the family's conduct of its own affairs; dissolution of the family; child custody; assisted reproductive technology; domestic violence; problems in jurisdiction and choice of law. The course will focus on Pennsylvania Family Law, and compare and contrast the law in other states.
Grades in this course will be based on an in-class final examination (100%).
