Scheduling of clinical hours will be adjusted to accommodate each student’s other class and work commitments. Transportation costs associated with travel to/from the office will be reimbursed

Description

Students will work in a legal aid office and have opportunities to gain and practice essential lawyering skills, including Interviewing, counseling, negotiation, document/pleading drafting, and representation at the magisterial district court judges and before Courts of Common Pleas. Students will initially learn through modeling and shadowing. As skills are developed, students will work more independently while receiving ongoing support, training, and supervision by experienced legal aid attorneys. Students will work with attorneys on landlord tenant and other housing matters; family law matters, including divorce, protection from abuse and protection from sexual violence, custody, and juvenile dependency; economic matters, including debt, bankruptcy, and SSI/SSDI. Students will also have opportunities to work with specialty project attorneys on fair housing and tax issues.
