Heather Dietrich Batzel is an attorney practicing in the areas of corporate and securities law, commercial transactions and company counsel. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 2000 and obtained her Juris Doctor from American University’s Washington College of Law in 2003.

For more than 5 years, Heather has provided legal services through her own firm, Batzel Law PLLC. Earlier in her career, Heather worked as legal counsel at the World Bank advising on commercial transactions and investor relations for the Carbon Finance Unit whose mandate was to assist in the implementation of the United Nation’s greenhouse gas emission reduction programs. She then worked as an Associate Attorney on the Corporate/Securities teams of Baker and McKenzie LLP and then Andrews Kurth LLP (now Hunton Andrews Kurth), before joining a new company of World Bank alumni working on climate change and environmental markets, eventually becoming its global General Counsel. Heather founded Batzel Law PLLC in 2013, a law firm focused on providing entrepreneurs with legal counsel during the full life cycle of their companies in the areas of corporate and securities transactions, commercial contracts, strategic and regulatory business law advice and general counsel. Heather’s experience advising organizations at all developmental stages and of all sizes provides a broad perspective from which to advise clients.

Heather provides pro bono legal representation, particularly in the area of economic empowerment, and she works for the protection of democratic institutions, family reunification, the integrity of the federal judiciary, vote equality and protection, and gender and racial equality through her legal activism and advocacy initiatives. She is also a regular speaker on topics of law and entrepreneurship.

Heather is licensed to practice law in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Batzel Law PLLC has offices in Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA.
