Frequently Asked Questions:

What can I request funding for?

The University of Pittsburgh School of Law offers professional development funds to qualified law students for the purpose of attending professional development events and career fairs.

What can I be reimbursed for?

You can request funding support for travel expenses including transportation and lodging expenses such as air fare, hotel, ground transportation, gas reimbursement, or mileage reimbursement on a personal vehicle in lieu of gas reimbursement as well as event-related expenses such as registration or enrollment fees.

NOTE: All university travel is suspended indefinitely due to COIVD-19, so the fund can only be used for virtual professional development events.

What kinds of things are NOT reimbursable?

Clothing, Food/Meals, including drinks and groceries, Entertainment/Excursion costs (e.g., city tours), Passport fees, Health insurance, Cell phone, internet, or personal communication bills, and other unallowable expenses.

NOTE: In the event that student membership in a professional organization or bar association includes complimentary or discounted registration to a conference or career fair such that the cost of membership in the organization is less than the cost of registration for non-members, students should (must?) join the organization as a student member rather than register as a non-member and may submit that expense for reimbursement.

How do I apply?

Am I able to cost share with other Pitt Law students?

Yes, but please contact the PDO well in advance of applying so that we can ensure that the proper application process is followed and so there is not a delay in receiving your reimbursement.

How long does it take to receive reimbursement funds?

The University’s Payment Processing Department generally takes three to four weeks to process payment.
