Appellate Legal Writing: State Appellate Practice
This two-credit course focuses on the theory and practical aspects of PA appellate practice. Students learn selected state rules of appellate procedure and refine their legal writing skills. The major writing assignment is an appellate brief of a minimum of 25 pages which may not be used to fulfill the upper level writing requirement. Course requirements include attendance at one oral argument of either a state or federal appellate court during September, October or November.
Assigned readings are to be completed before the next class. Students should be prepared to discuss any assigned readings. Selected rules highlight key provisions of an assigned topic and are not meant to be all inclusive of relevant procedural requirements.
