Khashayar Attaran is a current trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice ("DOJ"). Prior to his role with the DOJ, Mr. Attaran worked for the Office of the Federal Public Defender, Western District of Pennsylvania, as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Trial Division.
In that role, the Mr. Attaran provided legal representation to the indigent accused of federal crimes such as drug distribution, conspiracies, including Title III Wiretap cases, fraud, robbery, firearms offenses, and internet-related crimes in United States District Court. Mr. Attaran started his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in West Palm Beach, Florida. There he represented the indigent accused of Juvenile, Misdemeanor and Felonies in Florida's Court System. Too date, Mr. Attaran has represented over 2000 people in State and Federal Court and has tried over 40 cases to verdict. Mr. Attaran has spoken at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers ("NACDL") on how to successfully gain access to proprietary source code belonging to third-party technology companies utilizing subpoena powers.
He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon, and his Judicial Doctorate from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.
