Michael Sampson

Michael H. Sampson, Esq. is Senior Director of Legal Affairs and Risk Management at Symphony Risk Solutions. Sampson provides legal and risk management counsel to Symphony’s industry specialties and leads Symphony Solve.
Sampson has had an extensive legal career. For many years, he was as a partner at Reed Smith LLP where he built and led their cannabis practice and was a member of their Insurance Recovery Group. Sampson also served as Assistant Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Legal Affairs Department. As counsel for policyholders, Sampson regularly assisted clients of all sizes across diverse industries with a myriad of complicated legal matters, including policy review, claims handling, dispute resolution, breach-of-contract, and bad-faith litigation. As an expert in legal issues associated with cannabis businesses, Sampson routinely counseled plant-touching, non-plant-touching, and ancillary businesses operating in or adjacent to the cannabis industry. In particular, Sampson developed a unique practice advising cannabis-related businesses about insurance coverage and risk management concerns.
Sampson is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, New York, and DC, as well as in various federal courts across the country. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Sampson received a Juris Doctorate with Honors from the University of Chicago Law School and a Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction in Government from the University of Virginia.
