If you need to reschedule an in-class final exam, complete the Exam Reschedule Form emailed to all students and return it by the date noted in the email. You may reschedule a remote in-class exam if you have two in-class exams at the same time, three in-class exams in a row, or a 9 a.m. exam that is four hours long, followed immediately by a 1 p.m. exam.
If you need to reschedule for other reasons, please contact Dean Allie Linsenmeyer for approval.
For traditional take-home exams (i.e., those you are permitted to work on for 24 hours or longer), you will access your exam through ExamSoft, using their web-based platform for accessing take-home exams (PDF). No special software is needed to access and download take-home exams. Once downloaded, you will work on the exam using the word processing program on your computer and then upload your answer once you have completed the exam.
You may not download take-home exams over the weekend. Downloading is restricted due to the unavailability of IT assistance with downloading exams and uploading answers over the weekend.
You do not need to be connected to the internet while you are working on an exam. You only need to be connected to the Internet when you download the exam before you start working on it and when you upload your answer after you finish working on it.
You probably need to clear your cache and close the browser if you encounter difficulties. Also, email IT and the Registrar your file. Keep trying even after the exam window has ended.
You will need to clear your cache and close the browser. Also, email IT and the Registrar your file. Keep trying even after the exam window has ended.
You will still be able to upload it. It will not be late as long as you follow the guidelines that are written on the Take-Home Schedule (PDF).
No. For take-home exams downloaded using the ExamSoft platform, you will be working on your exam as you would a take-home exam that you picked up in hard copy from the Registrar’s Office. In other words, you will use Word or another word-processing program to type your answer. After completing your exam, you will upload your answer through ExamSoft.
For take-home exams downloaded from ExamSoft, you can print a copy of your exam and your answer. Hard copies of the exam will be distributed and collected in the classroom for in-class exams.
The video tutorials for ExamSoft are readily available on YouTube.
Take-home exams are files downloaded from examsoft.com/pittlaw on the Courses tab. These files are worked on and uploaded during the designated time window. The course will be shown at the start of the exam. If you log on at 8:59 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start, you will not see it until you log out and back in.
TWEN is separately supported by Susanna Leers.
Exam ID: 1234 (or make it up)
Password: mock123
All exam IDs are emailed to students before the exam. Exam passwords are provided in class by the proctor. Take-home exams do not have passwords.
No Virtual Machines, Linux or Chromebooks, tablets, or phones are permitted for exam use.
The Training Statement is required by all students who use a laptop to take an exam with Examplify. It certifies that you have watched the video training.
Your exam is backed up every 30-60 seconds. Hold the power button and wait for the computer to shut off. Then power it back on, log in, and wait for Examplify to relaunch.
You must clear your cache, close the browser, or try a different browser and restart. If neither of these works, please contact lawit@pitt.edu for assistance.
Your exam is not secure, but doesn't allow the internet. If the exam does not allow internet, you must store a local copy of your notes and any other files you may want to access if they are stored in Box or OneDrive.
- Log on to the ExamSoft web portal and click Courses.
- Click on the course you wish to see results for.
- To view released results, click on the graph icon next to View Results on the course page.
- The results will be displayed on a new browser tab.
In a secure exam, no. Please unplug your second (and any additional) monitor(s) before launching Examplify. Especially if you have two screens with different resolutions, ExamSoft may not display properly on your primary monitor.
If a course appears on the “In-Class” schedule, you will complete the exam through Examplify. Any class that appears on the take-home schedule will be accessed through examsoft.com/pittlaw. The printed detailed exam schedule will tell you the length of the exam, the type, whether the Internet is permitted or not, etc. If your class is listed as a “limited open book” exam, you should touch base with your faculty member to determine which materials are/are not permitted for the exam.
If you find what you believe to be a mistake in the exam question or materials, please note the apparent error in your answer and explain how you are addressing the exam question or how you understand the materials in light of that mistake. Please don't contact faculty about any apparent mistake or other issues during an exam.
In the software, to switch between character count and word count, click on the document icon next to the words ‘Essay Answer’. If you highlight your text, it will count the words you have highlighted. By clicking on the page icon, your word count will become visible.
If Examplify won't load on MacOS Ventura, open the General System Settings panel in Ventura under Login Items, and ensure that Examsoft Worldwide, Inc. is enabled (slide to the bar to the right).
All students should be participating in the Pitt Law One-to-One Program. This ensures that you have a laptop that is compliant with ExamSoft requirements. Anyone who opts out of this program must ensure that their Windows or Mac computer meets the requirements listed below. The Law School does not provide PCs for taking exams outside the One-to-One program.
