Corporate & White Collar Crime - 2244

More today than ever before, the civil practitioner must be equipped with a working knowledge of issues in federal criminal law, specifically white collar crime. White collar crime has been called the growth industry of the next century. Its study reveals a unique interplay between ethics, policy, and enforcement. While it is based on traditional criminal law principles, it builds upon a complex interplay of institutional and individual responsibility. This course will examine the major federal statutes under which white collar crimes are prosecuted, including conspiracy, mail and wire fraud, Rico, criminal tax violations, bank fraud, currency transaction reporting requirements, money laundering, perjury, and false statements. Additional attention will be given to immunity, grand jury and penalties including restitution and forfeitures.
