Student Employment

The School of Law has a strong interest in students’ spending sufficient time on their academic commitments to enable them (1) to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed by an attorney to competently and professionally represent clients; and (2) to pass the bar examination. During a student’s Orientation as a 1L or transfer student, each student shall receive a form containing substantially the following language and shall sign and return an acknowledgment of receipt:

“The Law Faculty believes that the primary occupation of full-time law students should be the successful completion of their academic commitments, so that students are able both (1) to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed by an attorney to competently and professionally represent clients, and (2) to pass the bar examination. Accordingly, the Faculty has adopted the following policies:

  • During the fall and spring semesters, first-year law students should not engage in any employment outside law school.
  • While enrolled as a full-time student, upper-class law students should not engage in any employment outside law school for more than 20 hours per week.

I have received and read this policy regarding student employment.”
