Pitt Law Student Team Wins Regional Patent Application Drafting Competition, Advances to Nationals

A team of four University of Pittsburgh School of Law students emerged as Eastern Region champions in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) National Patent Application Drafting Competition. The Pitt Law team advances to the National Finals, held at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, VA, on April 9.

The Pitt Law team, 3Ls Paul McDonnell and Christian Roberts, and 2Ls Ashley Biernesser and Sarah Suereth, competed against eight other law schools to win the competition. The team worked together to draft a patent application and defend it before a panel of distinguished judges.

The Pitt Law Team was coached by adjunct professors and alumni Lynn Alstadt (JD ’76) and Ralph Fischer (JD ’05).
