Pitt Law Professor Kevin Ashley Receives NSF Grant for, "Using AI to Increase Fairness by Improving Access to Justice"

University of Pittsburgh School of Law Professor Kevin Ashley, lead prinicipal investigator, and his co-investigator Professor Diane Litman at Pitt's School of Computing and Information received a National Science Foundation (NSF) award for their new investigation, "Using AI to Increase Fairness by Improving Access to Justice." The project applies Aritfical Intelligence (AI) to increase social fairness by improving public access to justice. Although many AI tools are already available to law firms and legal departments, these tools do not typically reach members of the public and legal service practitioners except through expensive commercial paywalls.
